ZET SCALE Orders 2500 Battery Electric Class 8 Trucks, Most Of Them From Tesla
A group of shippers, carriers, and manufacturers called ZET SCALE has ordered 2,500 battery electric semi trucks, mostly from Tesla, with the rest coming from Kenworth, Volvo, and RIDE. That's roughly as many electric heavy trucks as are currently on US roads. The trucks will go to ten freight hubs around the country, including Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, and the New York area, though no delivery timeline has been set. The idea is that a large, pooled order gives manufacturers a reason to lower prices, since building at scale costs less than building one truck at a time.
This is a commercial trucking story, not a home upgrade one, but it points to where charging demand and electricity pricing pressures may be headed as freight companies electrify. It has no direct bearing on home energy decisions.
Separately, California signed a new law, SB 1213, requiring more public reporting on what electric trucks actually cost, so state incentive dollars can be tracked and cost reductions verified. Seven states, including California, now require this kind of price reporting for their truck incentive programs. Again, this affects commercial fleet purchases rather than home upgrades, though it shows a broader pattern of states trying to make clean vehicle incentives more transparent and effective, which is worth watching if you follow how state rebate programs are run in general.
