Wowza — Joby Buys Defense Company For Half A Billion Dollars
Joby Aviation, a company building electric aircraft that take off and land vertically (eVTOL), is buying a defense technology firm called Resonant Sciences for about half a billion dollars. Resonant, based in Dayton, Ohio, builds radio-frequency and mission systems for U.S. national security customers, technology that helps aircraft see, communicate, and operate in tough conditions. Joby plans to fund the deal with roughly $450 million in cash and $50 million in stock, with the purchase expected to close in the first half of 2027.
This has nothing to do with home energy upgrades or rebates. It is a business story about a company known for its air taxi ambitions shifting some of its focus and money toward military applications, as commercial flying-taxi service has taken longer to develop than expected and defense spending has grown due to wars overseas. Joby says its air taxi business will keep moving forward separately, while its defense work, including hybrid and self-flying aircraft projects, will move under the newly acquired Resonant Sciences.
For homeowners, there is no direct impact here. No rebate program, appliance, or upgrade is affected. This is simply a corporate acquisition in the aviation and defense industry, worth noting only if you follow electric aviation or Joby as a company rather than anything related to home energy costs or improvements.
