We Recycle Solar to open panel recycling and critical material recovery facility in Texas
We Recycle Solar plans to open a new solar panel recycling plant outside Dallas, Texas, set to launch in 2027. The company says the facility will recover up to 96% of the silver, copper, silicon, aluminum, and glass found in old solar panels, turning them into materials that can be resold, all processed in the U.S. rather than shipped overseas.
This is the first of five planned recycling sites the company intends to build across the country over the next four years, backed by about $100 million in investment. The goal is to create a network of regional recycling centers so old panels do not have to travel as far to be processed. We Recycle Solar already runs a similar plant in Yuma, Arizona.
For homeowners, this news is mostly about the broader solar industry rather than something that changes your household right away. If you have rooftop solar now or are considering it, it is a sign that there will be more places to responsibly recycle panels once they wear out, rather than sending them to landfills. It does not affect current rebates, installation costs, or how your existing system works. But as more of these recycling facilities come online, it could make end-of-life disposal easier and more common for solar owners in the years ahead, and may support more U.S.-made components in the solar supply chain over time.
