Waymo’s Next Target: Singapore

September 18, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This news is about self-driving taxis, not home energy upgrades, so it does not affect your house or any rebate program. Waymo, the robotaxi company already running driverless cars in more than a dozen US cities, plans to launch service in Singapore in 2028. Testing vehicles will start arriving there in the coming months to map roads and gather data ahead of that launch.

Singapore has strict rules for self-driving cars. Before Waymo can carry passengers, it needs approval from the city's Land Transport Authority, and its vehicles must pass a safety review run by the Centre of Excellence for Testing and Research. Waymo has already set up a local company there and joined a government committee on autonomous vehicles. The move follows Waymo's recent expansion into the UK, Germany, and plans for Japan next year, showing the company is moving beyond the US market on a fairly slow, deliberate timeline.

None of this involves home electrification, weatherization, or energy rebates, so there is nothing here for you to act on around your own house. It is simply a sign of how fast robotaxi service is spreading to new countries, which may be of interest if you follow clean transportation news generally.
