Waymo Fully Launches Robotaxi Service in Houston
This one isn't really about home energy upgrades, but here's what happened: Waymo, the self-driving car company, has opened its robotaxi service in Houston, Texas to anyone who wants to use it. Before this, only people on an interest list could hail rides, starting about six months ago. Now anybody with the Waymo app can request a ride in the city.
Waymo says more than 100,000 riders in Houston used the service during that earlier, limited phase. The company also mentioned that it carried many of the more than 1 million visitors who came to Houston for the World Cup, taking them to and from games and around the city.
For homeowners, this doesn't connect to insulation, heat pumps, or rebate programs. It's a transportation and technology story about a driverless ride-hailing service expanding in one city. If you live in Houston, it means you can now open the Waymo app and book a robotaxi like you would any other ride-share, rather than waiting for an invitation. If you live elsewhere, the news mainly signals that Waymo continues to roll out full public access city by city, with Houston being the latest to move from limited to open service.
