Want to get off gas? Learn how at Drive Electric Month events across the US
If you have been curious about switching from a gas car to an electric one, this month brings over 150 events across nearly every state (and one in Canada) where you can talk directly with EV owners, sit in different models, and sometimes get a test drive. The events run through most of September and into early October, timed with a spike in gas prices that has US pump costs at record highs.
The gatherings range from small parking-lot meetups to large festivals with food trucks, live music, and dozens of cars on display. Many let you talk one-on-one with everyday EV owners rather than a dealer, which can be a more useful way to learn about charging, range, and ownership costs. Some events also cover related topics like home solar, e-bikes, and electric yard equipment, and a few include info on rebates or lower electricity rates for charging at off-peak hours through local electric co-ops.
You can find a map and full list of events, search by location, and register for the ones near you online. Most are in person, but there are also a few online webinars if nothing is happening nearby, including one in late October covering EV ownership, charging, and getting money back through rebates. If you are weighing an EV purchase or just want to see what current models are like in person, this is a low-pressure way to check them out before visiting a dealership.
