VW’s new ID. Polo is apparently sold out, with over 30,000 orders and a 10-month waitlist
This news is about a car launch in Europe, not a home energy program, so it doesn't have a direct action for homeowners here. Still, it's worth noting for anyone weighing an electric vehicle alongside home upgrades like a heat pump or EV charger.
Volkswagen's new ID. Polo, a small electric city car, has reportedly sold out after more than 30,000 orders came in following its late-April launch. A German dealership executive says buyers now face at least a 10-month wait. The base ID. Polo Trend starts at €24,995 (about $29,000) with a 37 kWh battery and a range of 334 km (207 miles) on the European testing standard. Volkswagen says demand has been "very positive" and is ramping up production at its plant in Spain to catch up. Related models built on the same platform, the Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval, are seeing similar demand, as is VW's electric SUV, the ID. Cross, which starts around €27,995 (about $32,000).
None of these vehicles are confirmed for the US market in this report, so American homeowners shouldn't expect to see them at dealerships soon. The bigger context is that Volkswagen is also cutting up to 100,000 jobs worldwide and closing plants as part of a restructuring plan through 2030, even as it tries to compete with lower-priced electric vehicles from Chinese automakers like BYD.
