Volvo’s Electric Trucks Win International Truck of the Year 2027 at IAA

September 27, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

Volvo's new heavy-duty electric trucks have won International Truck of the Year 2027, an award covering the company's FH Electric, FM Electric, FMX Electric and new FH Aero Electric models. This is mostly industry news about big rig freight trucks, not home equipment, but it's a sign of how fast battery power is spreading into transportation that once seemed hard to electrify.

The standout model is the FH Aero Electric, which Volvo says can travel up to 700 kilometers (about 435 miles) on a single charge, thanks to a new axle design that fits more battery into the same size truck. It also supports megawatt charging, a fast-charging approach meant to let trucks recharge during drivers' scheduled rest breaks. Volvo's other electric models now reach up to 470 kilometers (about 292 miles) of range, and the company has introduced an electric truck combination rated for up to 80 tonnes, aimed at entering the market in early 2027.

None of this changes anything about home energy upgrades or rebates. It's a look at how electric technology is moving beyond passenger cars and local delivery vans into long-haul and heavy freight trucking, which has been one of the toughest sectors to shift away from diesel. For homeowners, the relevance is mostly background: it shows battery and fast-charging technology maturing across many types of vehicles, not just the cars or chargers you might be considering for your own driveway.
