Volvo teases its new vehicle design, including a surprise inside

September 17, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This is car news, not home energy news, so it doesn't affect your house or any rebate programs. But since it touches on electric vehicles, here's what's happening: Volvo announced plans to launch 13 new electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2030, split between models built for the US and Europe and separate models for China. The company says this is its biggest product push in its 99-year history, aimed at doubling its market share.

Along with new vehicles, Volvo is redesigning its interiors and exteriors. The company plans to preview a new design as a concept car in spring 2027, tied to its 100th anniversary. Notably, Volvo says it will bring back physical buttons in its cars, moving away from touchscreen-only controls, though details on exactly how those buttons will work are still to come.

On the product side, Volvo just introduced new long-range plug-in hybrid versions of its XC60 and XC90 SUVs, with production starting this fall and deliveries expected in early 2027. These will be sold alongside the EX60, an all-electric SUV. Separate reporting mentioned in the piece says Volvo may also release a smaller, more affordable electric SUV called the EX50 by the end of 2027, priced around $50,000, as a replacement for its current entry-level EV.

None of this involves home energy upgrades, rebates, or efficiency programs.
