U.S. commercial crude oil inventories have decreased in June

June 24, 2026 · EIA Today in Energy · Score: 24

This is a routine government report on oil and fuel supplies, not something that calls for action around your house. It tracks how much crude oil, gasoline, and diesel the country has in storage week to week.

For the week ending June 19, 2026, U.S. crude oil stocks fell by 6.1 million barrels, landing 7% below the five-year average for this time of year. Refineries ran at 96.1% of capacity, processing 17.1 million barrels a day of crude. Gasoline supplies actually grew slightly and diesel supplies grew more, though both remain below their typical five-year levels. Propane stocks, often used for home heating in some regions, rose and now sit well above average.

None of this points to an immediate change in what you pay at the pump or for home heating fuel, but it does show the broader supply picture: oil and gasoline stocks are tighter than usual, while diesel and propane have more cushion. Gasoline demand nationally dipped a bit compared to last year, while diesel and jet fuel demand ticked up. If your home uses propane or fuel oil for heat, this kind of data can be a rough signal of how well-supplied those markets are heading into next season, though it does not translate directly into local price predictions for your area.
