Toyota is finally taking its best-seller electric
This news is about cars, not home energy upgrades, but here's what's happening: Toyota is planning an electric version of the Corolla, its best-selling model with over 57 million sold since 1966. The next-generation Corolla, expected to debut in 2027 as a 2028 model, will come in several versions: gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid (a car with a battery that can be charged and also has a gas engine), and a fully electric model.
The electric Corolla is expected to offer single- and dual-motor versions with a driving range of at least 250 miles. Toyota hasn't confirmed pricing, but reporting suggests the gas version could start around $25,000, the hybrid around $27,000, and the electric and plug-in hybrid versions around $30,000. Toyota also hasn't said whether the electric Corolla will be sold in the US.
For homeowners thinking about home charging, this is early-stage news. There's no confirmed US launch, no final specs, and pricing is still an estimate from industry reporting rather than an official announcement. If an affordable, widely available electric Corolla does arrive, it could be relevant to anyone weighing whether to add a home charger alongside other electrification plans, but that decision is still a couple of years off at best.
