The New BMW iX4

October 14, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This is a new electric car, not a home energy upgrade, so there's not much here for your house. BMW has announced the iX4, an all-electric SUV with a sloped, coupe-style roofline, set to arrive in March 2027. It will come in two versions at launch: the iX4 50 xDrive, with 469 horsepower and a range up to 514 miles, and the iX4 40 xDrive, with 374 horsepower and a range up to 396 miles. A more powerful performance model, the iX4 M60 xDrive, follows in January 2027 with 612 horsepower and a range up to 483 miles.

The car uses BMW's newest battery and motor technology, including fast charging up to 400 kilowatts, which the company says can add roughly 240 miles of range in ten minutes under ideal conditions. It also supports bidirectional charging, meaning the car's battery could, in principle, send power back out rather than only take it in — a feature relevant to homeowners who already have or are considering a home EV charger and backup power setups, though no details were given on how that function would work with home systems.

Pricing was not announced. For homeowners weighing an EV purchase alongside other upgrades like solar or a heat pump, this is useful background on what's coming to the market, but there's no rebate, incentive, or program tied to this release.
