The Jeep Wagoneer and Ram 1500 extended-range EVs face another delay

September 4, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 24

Two upcoming vehicles from Jeep and Ram have been pushed back again. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer, planned as the first extended-range electric vehicle sold in the US, won't start production until November 2027, a six-month delay from its earlier schedule. The Ram 1500 REV, an extended-range electric pickup, is now expected around April 2027 instead of by the end of 2026. An extended-range EV, or EREV, runs on a battery like a normal electric car but carries a small gas engine that generates electricity to recharge the battery and extend driving range once it runs low, rather than powering the wheels directly.

The Grand Wagoneer's version pairs a 92 kWh battery with a V6 engine acting as a generator, giving a claimed 500 miles of combined range on a full charge and tank of gas, along with strong performance numbers. Ram's fully electric pickup, once called the Ram 1500 REV in battery-only form, was scrapped last year in favor of this extended-range approach.

For homeowners weighing an EV purchase alongside other energy upgrades like home charging equipment, this mainly means patience: these particular models won't be showroom-ready as soon as automakers once promised. Other companies, including Hyundai, are also bringing extended-range EVs to market around the same timeframe, so buyers interested in this technology will have more than one option to compare once these vehicles actually arrive.
