The Chevy Silverado EV is now America’s most affordable full-size electric pickup
Ford has discontinued the F-150 Lightning electric pickup, which means the Chevy Silverado EV is now the cheapest full-size electric truck you can buy new. The 2027 Silverado EV starts at $53,200 for the base Work Truck trim, about $400 more than the 2026 version. Other trims saw increases of $200 to $400, and two trims, the 4LT and the RST Stars and Stripes special edition, have been dropped. GM hasn't confirmed final specs yet, but the outgoing 2026 base model offers up to 286 miles of range on its standard battery, 424 miles with the extended-range battery, and 493 miles with the top Max battery.
The 2027 lineup brings back the off-road Trail Boss trim, which sits about 2 inches higher for better ground clearance and adds all-terrain tires, a redesigned front end, and other trail-focused touches. Even with the price bump, the Silverado EV still costs less than competing electric trucks like the GMC Sierra EV, Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and GMC Hummer EV.
If you're weighing an electric pickup, this changes the field: the Lightning is gone, and the Silverado EV takes over as the value option among full-size EV trucks, at least for now. Ford's upcoming Fathom model and Slate's first truck are both expected to arrive later, which could shift the affordability picture again. In the meantime, dealers may still be clearing out remaining 2026 Silverado EV inventory before the 2027 model takes over showroom floors.
