Tesla Superchargers For Non-Tesla EVs On The Mass Pike!

September 11, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 16

More Tesla Superchargers on Massachusetts highways now work with non-Tesla electric vehicles. Under an amended agreement with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Tesla opened its fast chargers at state-owned rest stops on the Mass Pike and I-95 to other EV brands. This followed a deal that fell through with a convenience store operator that had been expected to overhaul rest stops and add fast charging of its own. There are now 32 fast charging ports open to all EV drivers at these state-owned rest stops, twice as many as before.

For owners of non-Tesla EVs, this means more charging options along two of the state's busiest highways. To use a Tesla Supercharger, you need a NACS adapter, the connector that lets non-Tesla vehicles plug into Tesla's charging network. Not every Supercharger location accepts outside vehicles, so it helps to check compatibility before counting on a particular stop. The Tesla app has a "Charge Your Other EV" feature that can help identify which stations work for non-Tesla cars, since regular map apps often show all Superchargers without noting which ones actually allow outside vehicles.

For anyone who drives an EV through Massachusetts on longer trips, this expansion means fewer detours off the highway in search of a working charger, since more of the existing Supercharger stations at rest stops are now open to any EV rather than restricted to Teslas.
