Tesla reveals European Semi specs: 550 km range, 800 kW charging
Tesla has shared specs for the European version of its Semi electric truck, ahead of a formal launch at a trade show in Hannover, Germany this month. The European truck is rated for up to 550 km (about 342 miles) of range at 40 tonnes fully loaded, with charging at up to 800 kW that can restore roughly 60% of range in 30 minutes. That's less range and slower charging than the US version, which is rated at 500 miles on a larger battery and can charge at up to 1.2 megawatts. The lighter curb weight of the European truck suggests it may use a smaller battery pack than the top US model, though Tesla hasn't confirmed this.
This is a commercial trucking story, not something that affects home energy upgrades directly. Tesla hasn't announced European pricing or a sale date yet, and it's still unclear whether these trucks will be built at Tesla's Nevada factory or in Berlin, where the company has previously said it planned to build the Semi.
Automakers including Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, MAN, Scania, DAF and Renault already sell electric heavy trucks in Europe with established dealer and service networks, so Tesla is entering a market where competitors have a head start. None of this changes anything about home solar, batteries, or electrification incentives — it's simply an update on Tesla's freight-truck business as it expands into Europe.
