Tesla FSD can soon avoid potholes, says Elon Musk who said exactly that in 2019
This is a car news story, not an energy-efficiency topic, so it has little direct bearing on home upgrades or rebates. Briefly: Tesla CEO Elon Musk said over the weekend that Full Self-Driving (FSD), Tesla's driver-assist software, will "soon" be able to spot and avoid potholes. He made the same promise back in 2019, and it never arrived. Tesla's software has improved over the years and can now handle highways, city streets, and even parking, but it still hasn't solved the pothole problem, despite the company saying for years that it scans roads for them.
The timing matters because Tesla is about to launch its "Cybercab," a fully driverless robotaxi with no steering wheel, in a limited service area later this week. If the cars still can't avoid road damage, that raises questions about wheel and tire damage or safety issues for vehicles operating without anyone behind the wheel to react.
None of this affects home energy upgrades, rebates, or weatherization programs. If you're considering an EV charger or solar setup for your house, this story doesn't change anything about incentives or technology available to you — it's simply an update on the state of Tesla's self-driving software and Musk's track record of predicting features that take much longer than promised to arrive, if they arrive at all.
