Prinoth is getting charged up for winter with a little help from Scania

October 14, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 23

This one is outside the usual home energy upgrade territory. Scania, the Swedish truck maker, is supplying battery packs to Prinoth, an Italian company that makes snow groomers, the heavy machines that groom ski slopes. The two companies have agreed on a long-term deal to electrify two groomer models, the Husky and the new Leitwolf E-Motion, using Scania's Core 800 battery system, which can scale up to 624 kWh.

The batteries run at 691 volts and include liquid cooling and a charging management system designed to handle cold, steep, heavy-duty work. Prinoth and Scania have worked together since 2022, when the first battery-powered groomer hit the slopes, and both companies say the electric machines have held up well in extreme cold, which matters for equipment that works through entire winters on mountains.

For a homeowner, there is no direct takeaway here. This is industrial equipment news, not a residential program or rebate. It is a sign that battery technology built for harsh winter conditions keeps improving, which is the same kind of engineering that eventually filters into things like cold-climate heat pumps and electric vehicles, but the story itself does not involve any home upgrade, incentive, or deadline that applies to your house.
