Omoda & Jaecoo confirm Canada launch in late 2026: here’s the EV lineup

September 28, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

Chinese automaker Chery has confirmed its Omoda and Jaecoo brands will launch in Canada in late 2026, though a new teaser website doesn't yet name specific models, prices, or dealers. The launch follows Canada's decision in January to cut its 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles down to 6.1% for a set quota — up to 49,000 electrified vehicles a year, rising to 70,000 by 2030. That quota covers plug-in hybrids (which run on both gas and a battery you can charge) as well as fully electric vehicles, which matters since much of Chery's lineup is plug-in hybrid rather than all-electric.

It's not clear which models Canada will actually get. In other markets like the UK and Australia, the lineup includes the Jaecoo E5 and Omoda E5, compact electric SUVs with roughly 400 to 430 km of range and starting prices around £27,500 to £33,000 in the UK. There's also a newer Omoda 4 electric SUV with a larger battery, though pricing hasn't been set. The bigger sellers so far are plug-in hybrid SUVs — the Jaecoo 7, Jaecoo 8, Omoda 7, and Omoda 9 — which offer only 90 to 145 km of electric-only range before the gas engine kicks in, with UK prices between roughly £32,000 and £45,500.

For homeowners tracking the EV market, this is part of a broader wave: BYD is also opening Canadian dealerships around the same time, and Tesla is already selling a lower-priced Model 3 built in Shanghai. More competition and lower-cost EV options could be on the way, though exact Canadian pricing and availability for these particular models remains unannounced.
