Nvidia launches BESS qualification program for AI data centers, names just Tesla, LG, Hitachi
Nvidia has started a new certification program, called DSX Ready, for equipment used in the giant data centers that run AI computing. The first products covered are battery energy storage systems (BESS) — large batteries that store power and help manage electrical loads — and cooling equipment. Nvidia is checking whether these systems can handle the power demands of AI facilities, including how well they respond to power surges, keep running during grid problems, and restart after an outage.
Three companies have had battery systems qualified so far: Hitachi Energy, LG Energy Solution, and Tesla. Their systems range from about 2 to 5 megawatts of power output and roughly 4 to 10 megawatt-hours of storage capacity, which is a scale suited to industrial data centers rather than homes. Nvidia notes the certification only covers the battery equipment itself, not the full electrical setup of a facility, so things like transformers and backup generators are not part of the review.
This news is about the infrastructure behind AI data centers, not home energy equipment. It does not involve any home battery systems, rebates, or products homeowners can buy or install. The relevance for a homeowner is mostly background: it shows how battery storage technology, including some of the same players making home batteries like Tesla, is expanding into large-scale industrial use as AI data centers grow. There is no direct action or program here that affects home energy upgrades.
