New 85 W solar shingle adds low-profile power to roofs
Building products maker CertainTeed has a new solar roofing option called Landmark PWR, meant to replace the usual solar panels-on-racks setup with shingles that lie flat against the roof deck. Each shingle puts out 85 watts and is built to look like part of the roof rather than sitting on top of it. The company says individual shingles can be swapped out without disturbing the rest of the roof or voiding nearby warranties, which is a common headache with traditional solar installs.
Beyond looks, the system is built for durability: it carries a Class A fire rating, hail-impact resistance, and wind resistance up to 110 mph, with approval pending for hurricane zones rated up to 194 mph in Florida and for use in California. It pairs with a specialized fireproof underlayment and works with standard solar equipment like power optimizers and microinverters. CertainTeed backs it with a 25-year warranty on both power output and workmanship, plus a 10-year wind warranty.
For homeowners weighing solar, this adds another option to the growing category of "building-integrated" solar, where the panels double as the roofing material itself rather than bolting on top of shingles you already have. That can matter if you care about curb appeal or are already planning a roof replacement, since it combines both jobs. Landmark PWR is set to go on sale November 1, 2026, and pricing and installer availability weren't part of what's public yet.
