Lucid overhauls its entire C-suite under new CEO after 18% layoffs

July 2, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

Lucid Motors, the electric vehicle maker, has replaced nearly its entire top leadership team under new CEO Silvio Napoli, who took over in June. New executives are joining as chief financial officer, chief technology officer, chief customer officer, and chief transformation officer, and the company has created a new business unit, Lucid Technologies, to focus on self-driving cars, robotaxis, and artificial intelligence. The moves come just over a week after Lucid cut about 18% of its workforce, roughly 1,500 jobs, and withdrew its 2026 production forecast of 25,000 to 27,000 vehicles.

The shake-up follows weak sales. Lucid delivered 3,953 vehicles in the second quarter, up from a year earlier but with production down 13% from the prior quarter. For the first half of 2026 the company has delivered just over 7,000 vehicles, well short of earlier goals. Full financial results, including how much cash the company is burning through, are due August 4.

This is a story about a struggling automaker restructuring its leadership, not a change to any energy program or rebate. It matters to homeowners mainly if you already own or are considering a Lucid electric vehicle, since the company's financial troubles and leadership turnover could affect service, pricing, or future model availability. If you're weighing an EV purchase alongside home solar or a home charger, it may be worth watching whether Lucid stabilizes before its August earnings report.
