Jupiter Power secures $1.4 billion in financing for 1.5 GW energy storage portfolio

September 16, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 28

Jupiter Power, a Texas-based energy company, has lined up $1.4 billion in financing for ten large battery storage projects in Texas and Michigan, adding up to 1,500 MW of capacity. These "utility-scale" batteries store electricity on the grid, not in individual homes, but they play a role in keeping power reliable and can help manage costs during high-demand periods.

The money came together in four separate deals between April and July 2026, backing projects like Tidwell Prairie, Bee Branch, Barton Branch, and St. Gall in Texas, and Grand Basin, Voyager I, and Tibbits in Michigan. Lenders included HSBC, SMBC, ING Capital, Societe Generale, MUFG, and investment firms AB CarVal and Nuveen. This brings Jupiter Power's total financing since it started to more than $3 billion.

The bigger picture: Texas's grid operator, ERCOT, has seen battery storage nearly double in a year, reaching close to 15 GW in early 2026, up from about 7.8 GW the year before. That makes Texas one of the fastest-growing battery storage markets in the country. For homeowners, this kind of grid-level buildout doesn't come with a rebate or direct upgrade to your house, but more battery storage on the grid generally supports steadier power supply, which can matter if you're weighing decisions like backup power or time-of-use electricity rates in areas served by these growing storage markets.
