Hyundai launches electric Ioniq V for under $15,000, but you can’t have it

September 29, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 1

This one is about a car, not a home upgrade, so there is not much here that touches your house directly. Hyundai has launched an electric SUV called the Ioniq V in China, with a starting price of 109,900 yuan (about $16,400), and a limited-time discount that brings the base model down to 99,900 yuan, or just under $15,000. Higher trims run up to about $20,900. The cheaper versions have a battery that gives roughly 275 miles of range, while pricier versions reach about 331 miles, though these figures come from Chinese and European testing standards that tend to run higher than U.S. estimates.

The car uses Hyundai's fast-charging platform, the same underlying technology found in some Hyundai EVs sold in the U.S., but the company hasn't said how quickly this particular model charges. It's built for the Chinese market, where ultra-fast public chargers are becoming common.

None of this is available to U.S. buyers. Hyundai has only launched pre-orders in China so far, with no confirmed timeline for bringing the Ioniq V to other countries, including the United States. So if you're hoping this affordable EV might show up as an option for your household, there's no indication yet that it will — at least not anytime soon, and not without changes to current trade policy.
