Geely’s BEV Sales Grow 29% in August

September 5, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This is news about the global car market, not something that affects your home directly. Chinese automaker Geely, one of the largest carmakers in the world, reported strong growth in battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales for August. Sales of fully electric models rose 29%, from about 93,000 units a year earlier to nearly 121,000. Plug-in hybrid sales grew more slowly, up 2%.

The bigger story is exports. Geely shipped 205% more vehicles to other countries than it did a year ago, jumping from about 36,000 to 110,000 units. That's part of a broader pattern of Chinese automakers, many of them EV makers, sending far more cars overseas even as sales inside China itself have been soft. Geely's total sales grew 8% overall, but that came entirely from exports and modest gains elsewhere. Sales within China actually fell by roughly 54,000 units for the month, meaning the export surge is masking a weaker domestic market.

For homeowners, this doesn't change anything about rebates, upgrades, or your own electricity use. It's a sign of how competitive and fast-growing the Chinese EV export market has become, which may eventually affect which electric vehicle brands and prices show up in other countries. But there's no program, deadline, or purchase decision tied to this news for your household right now.
