Geely TT launches at $19,100 — half the price of a Tesla

September 11, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 5

This is car news, not a home energy story, but it touches on EV charging costs. Geely, a Chinese automaker, launched a new electric sedan called the TT priced from about $19,100, roughly half what a comparable Tesla costs. The car charges fast, adding close to 500 km (about 310 miles) of range in 11 minutes on a high-voltage system, and comes with driver-assistance features and a long range, up to 725 km (about 450 miles) on the top trim. It's aimed squarely at competing with another Chinese electric sedan, the Xiaomi SU7, undercutting it by a wide margin.

For now, the TT is only sold in China, so it has no direct impact on US homeowners. But it's part of a broader trend of Chinese automakers pushing electric vehicle prices down while adding fast-charging technology. Geely has said it plans to enter the US EV market within two to three years, so cars like this one could eventually show up as options here.

For homeowners already driving or considering an EV, the bigger relevance is charging costs at home. The cheapest way to fuel an EV is still charging it off your own rooftop solar, especially with electricity rates rising. If you're weighing solar to pair with an EV, it's worth checking what rebates or financing options, including no-money-down leases or power purchase agreements, are available in your state.
