Ford’s Fathom EV pickup spotted again ahead of its upcoming debut

October 15, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 26

Ford is getting closer to showing off its new electric pickup, the Fathom, with another prototype recently spotted outside the company's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The truck is still covered in camouflage, so its full look hasn't been revealed yet, but Ford has shared several details about what to expect.

The Fathom is a midsize electric pickup with a starting price of $28,350, or just under $30,000 once a delivery fee is included. That's about half the cost of Ford's first electric truck, the F-150 Lightning. Ford says the truck will have more interior space than a Toyota RAV4, not counting the front trunk or truck bed, and that it should cost less to own over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y. It will charge using the same plug type as Tesla's Supercharger network, come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offer hands-free highway driving, and be the first vehicle with Apple Maps built directly into its navigation system. It can also send power back out, a feature called bidirectional charging, which can be useful for running home devices or backup power during an outage.

Ford hasn't yet said how big the battery is or how far the truck can drive on a charge. Preorders open in early 2027, with the first deliveries expected by the end of that year. For now, this is a preview of an upcoming EV rather than something available to buy.
