Excelsior Energy Capital and Enel complete $760M transaction for solar projects serving Meta and Google

September 11, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 18

Two large solar farms in Utah and Tennessee have new owners after a $760 million deal between Excelsior Energy Capital and Enel, a global energy company. The bigger project, the 682 MW Faraday solar plant in Utah County, Utah, sells its power to Rocky Mountain Power under a 20-year contract, with the output used to offset Meta's electricity use in that utility's service area. The smaller project, the 127 MW Skyhawk solar plant in Obion County, Tennessee, has a long-term deal with the Tennessee Valley Authority and supplies power that Google counts toward its own energy use through a program called TVA Green Invest.

This sale is part of a larger deal covering more than 1 gigawatt of power capacity, including 205 MW of wind power expected to close later this year. None of this involves rebates, incentives, or programs homeowners can apply for. It's a corporate transaction between energy companies, showing how large tech firms like Meta and Google increasingly buy power from specific solar and wind projects to cover their own electricity use, rather than building their own generation.

For homeowners, the direct impact is minimal. This kind of deal doesn't change local electricity rates, rebate programs, or what upgrades are available for your house. It does reflect a broader trend of big companies locking in long-term contracts for renewable power, which can support more solar and wind development in general, but it doesn't translate into a specific action or benefit for someone deciding on home energy upgrades.
