EVE Energy signs 206 GWh battery framework with storage supplier Fluence

September 18, 2026 · PV Magazine USA · Score: 23

Two big players in the battery world have made a large, long-term deal, though it's more about industrial supply chains than anything homeowners will see soon. Chinese battery maker EVE Energy has agreed to supply U.S. storage company Fluence with up to 206 GWh of batteries between 2027 and 2031. The first firm commitment is 16 GWh in 2027, with another 190 GWh reserved for the following four years. Fluence builds the large battery systems that utilities and grid operators use to store electricity, not the kind that goes into a home battery setup.

The deal is a framework agreement, meaning the two companies still need to work out specifics like pricing, battery chemistry, and delivery schedules through future orders. EVE itself cautioned that policy changes or market shifts could affect how much of this actually gets built. Fluence, meanwhile, has had recent troubles: it recently cut its 2026 revenue forecast due to production delays and supply problems at its U.S. manufacturing operations, and disclosed $15 million in costs tied to setting up this kind of international supply deal.

For homeowners, this news mostly signals how tangled global battery supply chains have become, with U.S. tariffs and sourcing rules increasingly shaping which countries' batteries end up in American energy storage projects. It doesn't point to any near-term change in home battery prices or availability, but it's a sign of how much of the battery storage that powers the electric grid — and eventually helps support things like home solar and EV charging — depends on deals like this one working out as planned.
