Efficiency Maine Annual Event Honors Contractors, Vendors, and Communities That Advance Maine’s Affordable Energy Objectives
Efficiency Maine, the state agency that runs Maine's energy-rebate programs, held its annual awards night in Freeport to recognize the contractors, vendors, and dealerships that help homeowners install efficient heating, insulation, and other upgrades. More than 130 electricians, plumbers, insulation installers, and electric vehicle dealers attended. These are the businesses listed as "Registered Vendors" or "Qualified Partners" on Efficiency Maine's website, which homeowners can search when looking for someone qualified to install a rebate-eligible upgrade. The agency also gave its first award for a battery distributor, reflecting a new push toward whole-home battery incentives alongside its usual heat pump and insulation programs.
The evening's top honor, the Philip C. Hastings Award, went to the Penobscot Indian Nation for a two-year run of energy upgrades. Using more than $475,000 in federal recovery funds routed through Efficiency Maine, the Nation installed heat pump and cooling systems in its public works, police, fire, and elder care buildings. Separately, tribal members completed more than 25 home energy projects in 2026, including 24 whole-home heat pump installations, using Efficiency Maine incentives — the same kind of rebates available to other Maine homeowners.
Officials at the event pointed to rising costs of imported oil and gasoline as a reason to keep pushing insulation and heat pump upgrades, and Maine's Public Advocate flagged energy storage and "grid-responsive" programs as a growing focus for the future. For homeowners, the practical takeaway is that Efficiency Maine's rebate programs, vendor network, and now battery incentives remain active and expanding.
