BYD’s electric supercar will beat a Lambo in a race, and it’s cheaper than a Porsche [Video]
This story is about a new electric supercar, not something that touches home energy upgrades or rebates. BYD, the Chinese automaker, has launched the Denza Z, an electric supercar with three electric motors producing about 1,600 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 62 mph in under 2 seconds and reach a top speed of 217 mph. In a test race against a Lamborghini Temerario, the Denza Z won two out of three runs.
Pricing starts at £142,900 (about $193,000) in the UK for the base Coupe, rising to £172,900 (about $234,000) for the top Racing trim. That undercuts the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which starts around £199,100 (about $270,000) and is slower to accelerate. In China, prices are roughly half what they are in Europe. The car uses an 800-volt electrical system and BYD's own fast-charging tech, letting its battery go from 10 percent to 70 percent charge in as little as five minutes.
None of this relates to home weatherization, heat pumps, or rebate programs. It is simply news about a high-performance electric vehicle aimed at buyers cross-shopping with luxury sports car brands, not a development that affects household energy costs or upgrade planning.
