5 NFL Stadiums Powered by Solar Energy

September 9, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 28

Solar power is showing up at some big venues this football season. Several NFL stadiums now generate part or all of their electricity from on-site solar panels, sometimes paired with battery storage.

The Philadelphia Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field has more than 10,000 solar panels producing about 4 megawatts, covering roughly 40% of the stadium's yearly electricity use. In Las Vegas, Allegiant Stadium runs entirely on renewable power through a deal with the local utility, including a large solar-plus-storage project that pairs solar panels with batteries to store power for later use. Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium has over 4,000 panels generating enough electricity to cover all nine Falcons home games each year, with any extra power flowing back into the local grid for other customers to use. The San Francisco 49ers' Levi's Stadium built solar into its design when it opened in 2014, with panels that offset the electricity used during home games. MetLife Stadium, shared by the Giants and Jets, also uses on-site solar as part of its broader energy efforts.

None of this is homeowner news exactly, but it reflects how ordinary solar and battery technology has become. The same basic setup — rooftop panels, sometimes paired with a battery — that powers these stadiums is the same technology available for houses, just at a much smaller scale.
