350-ton Longking ZL230E is the biggest, baddest battery mining rig you can buy

August 16, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 0

This news is about mining equipment, not home upgrades, but here's what happened. A Chinese company called Zijin Longking unveiled the ZL230E, an all-electric mining truck that it says is the largest battery-powered hauler of its kind in China. The truck weighs 350 tons fully loaded and can carry 230 tons of material, powered by twin 800 kW electric motors and a 1,400 kWh battery pack (for comparison, a home battery backup system typically holds around 10 to 20 kWh). The company says the truck can charge from 10 to 90 percent in about 25 minutes, much faster than refueling a comparable diesel truck.

The truck was built in partnership with EACON, an Australian company that specializes in self-driving technology for mining vehicles. EACON already runs more than 3,100 autonomous trucks across over 40 mine sites worldwide, and the partnership aims to combine this new electric truck with driverless technology for use in open-pit mines.

This is industry news about heavy equipment used in mining operations, far removed from anything in a typical home. There is no rebate, product, or technology here that applies to home energy upgrades, heating and cooling systems, or weatherization. It is simply a sign of how battery technology and fast charging continue to advance in large industrial equipment, well beyond the scale of anything found in a house.
